Custom Mouthguards

A custom mouthguard is moulded from an impression of your own teeth, so it fits your mouth exactly rather than the generic shape of a boil-and-bite guard from a chemist or sports store. We make them for two main reasons: protecting your teeth during contact sport, and protecting them from night-time grinding and clenching.

Sport mouthguards

Any sport with a risk of a knock to the face or a fall — football codes, hockey, boxing and martial arts, basketball, and many others — carries a real risk of a chipped, cracked or knocked-out tooth. A guard that’s moulded to your own teeth stays in place properly during play, rather than being spat out or shifting at the wrong moment, and distributes an impact across your teeth and jaw instead of concentrating it on one spot.

If you wear a denture, a partial denture, or have implants, a custom guard also matters more than a stock one — it can be shaped around what you already have in your mouth, which an off-the-shelf guard can’t do.

Night guards for grinding and clenching

Grinding your teeth at night, known as bruxism, can wear down tooth enamel and existing dental work over time, and often shows up as jaw soreness or headaches on waking. A custom night guard sits over your teeth while you sleep and takes the pressure of grinding instead of your teeth taking it directly.

Because it’s made to fit your bite precisely, it’s also more comfortable to sleep in than a generic guard, which matters if the guard is only useful when you’ll actually keep it in overnight.

How we make one

We take an impression of your teeth, which is sent to our on-site lab to be moulded into a guard that fits your mouth. Because the lab is on the premises, adjustments to the fit can usually be made quickly if anything feels tight or loose once you’ve tried it.
